Birmingham Based Classical Singer
Jacqueline graduated with a BA Joint Hons. in Music and French from Hull University in 2005. She then went on to Birmingham Conservatoire, where she completed a PG Dip and an MMus (Dist.) in musical performance, under the vocal tuition of Rita Cullis. She now performs regularly throughout the Midlands as both a soloist and chorister in venues including St Martin’s-in-the-Bullring, Birmingham Town Hall and Symphony Hall.
Whilst studying at the Conservatoire Jacqueline was invited to perform the role of Emmie Spashitt in Albert Herring with Birmingham based opera company ‘Operamus’. She now performs regularly as part of this company in performances and workshops. She has also had the pleasure of performing with groups such as Birmingham Opera Company, the CBSO Chorus, the Birmingham Bach Choir, Stone Choral Society and the NEO Singers. She was also selected to perform as soloist in Britten’s Hymn to Saint Cecilia for the Conservatoire Chamber Choir under the direction of Jeffrey Skidmore and Paul Spicer.
During her studies, Jacqueline has had the privilege of working with some of the UK’s leading coaches, conductors and directors including; Stephen Barlow, Jane Robinson, Robin Bowman, Susan McCulloch, Elaine Kidd, Adrian Thompson, Graeme Broadbent and Richard Jackson.
Jacqueline’s operatic roles include; Emmie Spashitt (Albert Herring, with Operamus), Spring/Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas, Hull University) and Second Eccho (Psyche, Birmingham Conservatoire), as well as a zephyr (Semele) and Nireno (Giulio Cesare) in opera scenes at Birmingham Conservatoire. Jacqueline has also performed in many chorus roles, including; Psyche, Le Nozzi de Figaro and Jekyll and Hyde, and in scenes of Tosca, Aida, Lucia di Lammermoor, Suor Angelica and Pia de’ Tolomei. Her recent oratorio performances include Orff’s Carmina Burana (Stone Choral Society), Handel’s Messiah (Operamus) and Haydn’s Little Organ Mass (at Sherborne Abbey).
As well as doing concert performances, Jacqueline enjoys performing at more intimate gatherings such as weddings and many other private functions. In addition to studying singing, Jacqueline has studied drama, plays the viola and the clarinet and has had extensive tuition in dance.
Since graduating Jacqueline has enjoyed a varied musical career of performing, conducting and teaching. She currently works as a music teacher, conducting the main school choir and directing the choir for ‘gifted and talented’ students. She is also a voice coach and assistant conductor with the CBSO’s Young Voices chorus.
