Albert Herring is a closeted young man still firmly attached to his mother’s apron strings. The village committee, having found all the girls of the village eligible for “May Queen” to be left wanting, choose simple Albert to take the place of “May King” whose crown comes with £25. Two of Albert’s friends decide to spike Albert’s drink during the May Day festivities and this leads to all sorts of trouble!
This opera was my first outing with Operamus and has lead to a happy and fruitful partnership including lunchtime concerts in Bourneville Quaker Meeting House, creative music workshops working with bereaved children and a Messiah.
